Re-CLAY-ming

What?: mixing back used clay so we can use it again!

Step 1

Before reclayming; the clay has sulfur spots and air bubbles in it.

Step 2

(see text in step 1)

Step 3

Cut the clay in slices.

Step 4

Slam the slices of clay together, and repeat step 3 and 4 two or three times.

Step 5

To reclaym, grab the edges of the clay, push it toward you and bring it over until it looks like a ram's face. Repeat that process several time, and after a few minutes you have to repeat steps 1 and 2.

Step 6

When your ball of clay looks like a ram's face, you know that you're on the good path.

Step 7

After having done the reclayming process a couple of times, cut the clay in thick slices to see if there's still air bubbles in it. If not, it means that you've done a great job and that the clay can now be used.

Step 8

Adit and I always do a great job with reclayming because it's a very important process to ensure that Danielle's pieces won't break. In the sad and unlikely situation that air bubbles are still present in clay after reclayming, pieces could explode in the kiln and ruin several wonderful pottery pieces.
